Mixed Results for the Chevrolet Warriors over the weekend - focus now shifts to the semis

The Chevrolet Warriors experienced a dream home game this weekend when they beat the defending Standard Bank Pro20 champions the Nashua Cape Cobras by 19 runs on Friday at Axxess DSL St. George's Park.

Crowd attendance was superb as over 12,000 fans made their way to the stadium to support their favourite team in action.  After a slow start to the game in which the Chevrolet Warriors strode out to the middle of the pitch first, Davy Jacobs and Justin Kreusch showed what rockstar cricket is really about by hitting a fourth wicket partnership of 98 runs.

The big sixes were flying and fours were flowing until Kreusch was caught off Vernon Philander's bowling on 61 off 45 balls.  By that time the damage was done and the Chevrolet Warriors racked up 172/5 in their allocated 20 overs.  The Nashua Cape Cobras never gained the necessary momentum and the lack of a solid partnership curbed their efforts.  Masterful bowling by seasoned veteran Nicky Boje who picked up three wickets in four overs for only 10 runs put the Cobras on the spot, while Garnett Kruger and Lyall Meyer picked up two wickets each and Rusty Theron restricted the run-rate beautifully.

By the end of their 20 overs the Nashua Cape Cobras could only reach 153/8, allowing victory for the Chevrolet Warriors by 19 runs.

On Sunday the Warriors made their way to Centurion for their round-robin match against the Nashua Titans.  Despite their good form of late, the Chevrolet Warriors were put on the back foot by the Nashua Titans' huge score of 182/4 to which Jacques Rudolph contributed 69 runs.  Having to score over nine runs an over from the first ball the Chevrolet Warriors struggled to get on track.  The Titans' David Wiese was punishing with the ball bagging five wickets for 19 runs in four overs, while Pierre Joubert took three for 23 off 3.4 overs.

The Nashua Titans bowled the Chevrolet Warriors out for 127 runs to win the match by 55 runs.

Despite the loss against the Nashua Titans, the Chevrolet Warriors go into the semi-finals at the top of the log winning four out of five matches in the round-robin stage.  The Chevrolet Warriors now focus on their semi-final matches against the Cape Cobras on Friday 26 February at 18:00 at Axxess DSL St. George's Park and on Wednesday 3 March at 18:00 at Newlands.
