Thousands of Chevrolet Warriors and Nashua Cape Cobras supporters will be glued to their seats tonight for the second semi-final clash between the two teams in the Standard Bank Pro20 series. The atmosphere at Newlands and in living rooms across the country is sure to be a combination of excitement and tension as tonight's match may well determine who makes their way to the final on 12 March.
After winning the first semi-final on Friday, the Chevrolet Warriors are one-up over the Cobras which means that a win for the Chevrolet Warriors tonight would take them directly to the Standard Bank Pro20 final. If the Nashua Cape Cobras win, however, the teams will be tied and a third semi-final match will be played on Monday 8 March in Port Elizabeth to determine who progresses to the final. Chevrolet Warriors supporters will be following the game with a hawk's eye tonight as the team has been on a good run during the season thus far and ended at the top of the log in the round-robin stage of the series. Beyond a spot in the final, there is also a place in the Indian Champions League (ICL) on the line as the two South African franchise teams to make it to the finals of the Standard Bank Pro20 series will play in the ICL later this year.
The Proteas players are back from their tour to India meaning that both teams' management will have some tough decisions to make about which combinations to play in tonight's match. For the Chevrolet Warriors, spinner Johan Botha and pacemen Wayne Parnell and Lonwabo Tsotsobe are eligible for selection. Injured Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis will not be up for selection. On the Nashua Cape Cobras' side, Herschelle Gibbs and Charl Langeveldt return to the squad, while Proteas skipper Graeme Smith is out of action with a hand injury.
A feather in the Chevrolet Warriors and Cricket Eastern Cape's cap is that another two of the Chevrolet Warriors players have been noticed by the Proteas selectors, once again proving the talent of the players and the strong position of cricket in the Eastern Cape. Rusty Theron who has been dubbed "The Deathbowler" by his fans and Colin Ingram who has also secured a nickname as "The Master Blaster", have both been selected for the provisional ICC World Twenty20 squad for the Proteas.
