Warriors gearing up for Airtel Champions League Twenty20

The Warriors were in good form yesterday during an open practice session in the nets at St. George's Park.

Members of the squad were perfecting their battling, bowling and fielding skills alongside fitness coach Drikus Saaiman and coach Russell Domingo.  The Cricket South Africa contracted players including Makhaya Ntini, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Johan Botha, Ashwell Prince, Mark Boucher, and Wayne Parnell will join the team on Friday while Rusty Theron and Colin Ingram will join the team on 8 September following their tour with the SA-A team to Sri Lanka.

Coach Russell Domingo was in good spirits in the nets yesterday and said that the team will be hoping to carry forth their good form in Pro20 cricket from last season.  He added that the off season has not had a particularly negative impact on the squad as many of the players continued playing cricket during the season.

"I think the team will have a lot of confidence from last season's performance, but our aim is not just to win tournaments and trophies.  Our goal is to keep improving as a side, as people and as cricketers.  There are basic things we have to keep doing right and keep a high standard of professionalism throughout the season," Domingo said.

In the light of the upcoming Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Domingo said that he hoped they would see capacity crowds at St. George's Park.

"The fans won't believe how much we value a packed St. George's - it's intimidating to our opponents, it serves as a source of confidence and motivation and gives the players a sense of self-belief.  It's truly like a 12th or 13th player knowing that the whole stadium is entirely behind us," he said.

Tickets to the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 are available from the ticket office at St. George's Park and Computicket outlets.

Ticket prices range from R30 to R75 for single matches and between R50 and R100 for double-header match days.
