Warriors to focus on Pro20 preparations

Reporting by Alvin Reeves, Avusa Media

THE Chevrolet Warriors will spend the better part of the next three weeks honing their skills ahead of the Standard Bank Pro20 series in early February.

Coach Russell Domingo said the team would have this week off before returning to training next week.

"I realise we have a SuperSport Series match in between but I want the guys to work some limited overs skills we were lacking in the MTN40 competition," said Domingo yesterday.

"I've given the guys the week off because we have been playing cricket since the start of September and the Champions League," Domingo said.

The Warriors have disappointed since making the final of the Airtel Champions League T20 at the end of September.

They have only managed two wins in 11 matches since the start of the South African domestic season.

Those wins came at the start of the MTN40 campaign against the Nashua Titans and against the Highveld Lions last week.

Five more losses in the same competition resulted in the defending champions being knocked out.

Bowling has been a problem for the Eastern Cape franchise after losing the like of Johan Botha, Wayne Parnell and Lonwabo Tsotsobe to the national side.

"We should have been much more competitive with the totals we posted batting first and batting second saw us chasing unrealistic targets for the most part. The bowling has not been up to scratch and this is something we'll work on in the next few weeks," Domingo said.

The Warriors' next match is a SuperSport Series clash against the Chevrolet Knights in East London from December 16-19.
